Arc launched a new project called Culture Buddies to connect older isolated people who due to health or lack of digital access cannot benefit from other services at this time, to help them stay connected and creative whilst at home.
Culture Buddies connected each participant with a volunteer ‘buddy’ with whom they begin a creative exchange through the post. Both participants and buddies receive an Art Pack full of materials and resources to support the creation of their Mail Art. There was no time limit on the project – participants could take their time to either add or create a piece of work inspired by the Mail Art, with the hope that the piece will be sent between participant and buddy a few times, to see how they can influence and inspire one another’s creativity.
Culture Buddies was part of the GMCA Culture Champions Programme (an age-friendly cultural engagement programme for people aged 50 and over, spanning six districts across Greater Manchester) and was supported by Sector 3 (who support the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sectors across Stockport).
